Nervous System & Support Structures

The central nervous system includes the brain and spinal cord. The peripheral nervous system connects them to the rest of the body, carrying information in both directions. This section looks at how that larger system is organized and what keeps it working. It covers the fibers connecting brain regions, the fluid and protective membranes around nervous tissue, and structures such as the blood-brain barrier that help regulate what reaches the brain from the bloodstream.
